A photo walkthrough of the May 2009 "working trip" to:
St. Jude Mission in Kentucky.

Is God calling you to help? Perhaps you would consider joining us next year?

After their arrival Sunday evening, direction and blessings given by Father Beiting, the men were off on to a jump start
first thing Monday morning.
This year’s work involved work within the Point of Hope on two mobile homes and a residence used by a permanent volunteer:
replacement of all the windows in the two mobile units; remodeled kitchens in one of the mobile units and the residence; entry/interior door work, electrical/plumbing installation at all the three locations; rain gutter and down spout repair, and demolition and rebuilding a porch/deck at the residence.
Here, under tarp cover from the rain, Andy & Tom discussing the strategy for the day.
"Hey, Woody! Is that the best you can do?"
Mike E. providing lifting instructions for Bill.
Paul, "the rookie," catching up on the daily news before supper. Some of the men shared memories of the earlier trips to Kentucky when they resided and worked at this year’s volunteer residence, "The Pondarosa."
"Mmmmm. Wonder what I do with these?" Al putting together what the men hope is their supper meal.
Just two of the many beds provided for the volunteers at "The Ponderosa."

Bill attempting to use a borrowed measuring tape.  Seems Mike F came along and helped Bill figure how to get 4 1/2 feet out of the length of the 2x4 instead of the width.

Kentucky Steve and Mike E “destructing” a window framework.

The “fearsome do-some,” Ted and Al take measurements for window finishing.

“Happy, Paul?”  “Yes, I am;” is his reply.”  “I’m framed by my own destruction.”

Paul with his newly installed window.  Why the perplexed look, Paul?

Jim with the before and after pictures of the remodeled kitchen.

Mike F spends a moment with Sister Bernadette.
Sister Bernadette and Sister Helena (not pictured) overlook the in-resident Point of Hope services and interventions for people having substance abuse issues.  And, yes, Sister Bernadette found time to provide “work” interventions during the men’s labors at the Point of Hope.

“Hey, the framework, Andy!  Maybe some repair needed; however….”   The team of Tom and Andy in “tear down" mode.

Ah ha!!  Bill’s walk around management style again caught at its best.

Residence porch/deck gone.
Andy and Steve discuss the reconstruction.

Mike E, Steve and Mike F work on the foundation for the new porch/deck.

Notice Mike’s right hip.  He got his tape back from Bill.
Mike finished the 2x4 job Bill had earlier.  Now Mike is
doing trench work.  Bill?  Well….

Finishing work on the porch/deck.
Kitchen cabinet work completed at the residence.

Mike E and Steve resetting gutters and down spouts at the residence.

Woody & Ted preparing molding for the interior doors.

Ted & Larry installing molding.  (Larry Presser, a previous Permanent volunteer working with Father Beiting, joined the men this year in their work.  Larry continues to be an Inspiration to the men with his work not only with Father, but also in Northern Kentucky where he now resides with his family.)

Within this picture are “parts” representing the shared thoughts of the 12 men who made this year’s Saint Theresa of the Infant Jesus men’s mission to Kentucky.  At week’s end, upon returning to The Ponderosa for the evening, one of the men handed a wood screw with a washer he had found in his pocket to another man.  The first man explained why he was giving the screw and the washer to the second man.  The second man was instructed to add something of importance to the screw and washer and pass it along to the another member of the team.  And on, till all 12 men had added something.  After the supper meal, as part of the evening prayer, each man, beginning with the first, was to explain the part they had added.  The outcome… well, a witness of the power of the Holy Spirit and best explained by each man who represented the Saint Theresa of the  Infant Jesus community in Kentucky this year.  For it is their parts
that made this whole “picture” possible.
